Nickolas Glenn Lilleberg

12/09/1974 - 12/10/2019

Nickolas Glenn Lilleberg, 42, of Atwater, died Saturday, December 10th, 2016 at Rochester Methodist Hospital. Nick courageously battled Hodgkin's Lymphoma for over three years.  Nick was born on December 9, 1974, in Willmar to Stan and Barb (Miller) Lilleberg. He attended school at St. John’s Lutheran School in Atwater until the eighth grade before graduating from Atwater-Grove City High School in 1993. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1997, where he was a proud member of Alpha Gamma Rho on the St. Paul campus. On August 7, 1999, Nick married Kristi Lien in Northfield. They lived in Mankato, where Nick worked for BASF as a Chemical Rep. Nick truly loved the farm and could not wait to get back to the soil. In 2002, they moved back to Atwater and Nick started farming with his dad, joined by his brother, Erik, in 2007.  Lilleberg Farms received the 2014 Soil Conservation award and also the 2016 Farm Family of the Year award. Nick was active in the church council, a Cub Scout leader, a basketball coach, and a faithful dance supporter. He loved to ice fish with his brothers and boys, spend time at his cabin on Green Lake with his family, play with his children, laugh with friends, take several trips to BWCA with college buddies, and fix anything that needed fixing. His greatest accomplishment was the girl he married.

Nick is survived by his wife, Kristi of Atwater, children: Levi (14), Jillien (12) and Prestan (10); his parents; siblings: Kerri and Luis, Russell, Angie and Christian Vela of Corvallis, Oregon; Erik and Jeanna, Lucas, Nicole, Ethan, Hannah Lilleberg of Atwater; Matt and Tricia, Amelia, Lochlan Lilleberg of Spicer; inlaws: Mary and Mike Mills of New London, Doug and Karen Lien of Dennison, Jill and Chris, Ellie Wilson of Charleston, South Carolina.  He is also survived by his maternal grandmother, Phyllis Miller of Willmar, several aunts and uncles, many cousins and so many others who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by both his paternal grandparents, Bernie and Lucille Lilleberg and maternal grandfather, Russell Miller.

Thank you for your support!

In memory of Nickolas Lilleberg, Lilleberg Family Foundation was created by Nick's wife and children. Our mission is helping families battling cancer, and providing college scholarships to those pursuing a four year degree in the field of Agriculture.

My late husband, Nickolas Glenn Lilleberg, was diagnosed with Classic Hodgkin's Lymphoma on February 14, 2014. He courageously fought hard for his family, friends, and farm; losing his battle on December 10, 2016, one day after his 42nd birthday.

As part of Nick's treatment, he went through a Stem Cell Transplant in Rochester, in August, 2016. During this entire month we really wanted to have a place to stay that was more private and homey than the Transplant House, with more amenities than a hotel room. A friend led us to Med City Foundation, now called Red Drop Resources. We were blessed to stay in a fully furnished two bedroom home that Med City provided for us at a very minimal cost, for as long as we needed it. It was a home where  our family could visit. We were walking distance to paths on the river, which was a great escape from the day to day medical world of the clinic and hospital. Our annual golf tournament, established in 2018, continues to raise money, $82,000 so far, so we can give back to Red Drop Resources and

local families battling cancer.  An additional $162,000 has been raised and distributed by Lilleberg Family Foundation through other local events raising money for families battling cancer.

Nick  was an active member of the agricultural fraternity, Alpha Gamma Rho - Lambda Chapter from 1994-1998.  He had a strong love for farming at an early age, which led him to pursue a degree at the University of Minnesota and joined AGR; following the footsteps of several relatives.  Nick always listed his time at Alpha Gamma Rho among the favorite and most memorable times of his life.  AGR helped him continue to grow in his life’s journey to become the farmer he always wanted to be, by guiding him with high expectations for professionalism, morally responsible leadership, and a strong foundation in agriculture; not to mention the amazing friendships he made along the way and kept strong until his very last day on earth.  Since 2017, we continue to provide a $1,000-$2,000 scholarship each year, for an ACGC graduate pursuing a four year degree in the field of agriculture.  In addition, starting in 2022, we will be offering a $1,000 scholarship to an AGR-Lambda Chapter member who is pursuing a degree in Agriculture.  $12,000 in Agricultural Scholarships has been distributed so far.

Thank you for your part in supporting our mission at Lilleberg Family Foundation!

Sincerely, Kristi Lilleberg-Barber, founder
